AT GLENELG PODIATRY CLINIC

we use the very latest innovations and most up-to-date treatments with our patients, including shock wave therapy.

Our professional podiatrists use the Swiss Dolorcast shock wave therapy and we'll discuss this treatment with you if we think it would be a suitable intervention for your condition.

What is shock wave therapy, and how does it work?

Radial Shock Wave Therapy (RSWT) is a non-invasive procedure that involves transmitting high-energy sound waves into the tissue of the affected area of the body through a special hand-piece.

The shockwaves stimulate the body's natural healing process, increasing blood flow and metabolic activity around the site of pain. This accelerates healing and can reduce pain by stimulating the local nerves, as well as breaking up calcification within tendons for increased comfort.

How is the treatment performed?

If you choose this treatment, then you’ll undergo four separate sessions once per week.

When the hand-piece is held against the affected area, you'll feel a pulse, which might cause a little discomfort at first, but your body will become accustomed to this.
RSWT can treat:

  • Heel pain, plantar fasciitis, heel spur
  • Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Chronic shin splints
  • Patella Tendinopathy and tears
